Throwback - Celebrities Recreate Iconic Covers for Ebony Magazine’s 65th Anniversary (2010)

To celebrate its 65th anniversary issue and icons of the past and present, EBONY magazine asked their favorite entertainers to pose in modern-day recreations of those covers for a one-of-a-kind look back at the past.

Featuring: Regina King (as Eartha Kitt), Mary J. Blige (as Diana Ross), Nia Long (as Dorothy Dandridge), John Legend (as Duke Ellington), Lamman Rucker (as Richard Roundtree), Taraji P. Henson (as Diahann Carroll), Blair Underwood (as Sidney Poitier), Jurnee Smollett (as Lena Horne), Usher Raymond (as Sammy Davis, Jr.), and Samuel L. Jackson (as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), among others.

Love this!

Anonymous said: What are you talking with Iggy and a clear channel deal

beyonseh:

Lemme serve up this hot tea.

So Iggy Azalea has this deal with Clear Channel which says that she has to get AT LEAST 150 spins on each radio station a day. Clear Channel is a radio company and they own almost every relevant radio station (and if not all of them).

Clear Channel is basically a force in the music industry. An example: Britney Spears’ ban from getting spins from the company because her manager didn’t want to sign a deal with her tour in the early 2000’s. That’s why her music in the early 2000’s peaked so low on Billboard but seemed like huge hits WW. With the CC ban, Britney Spears proved that she doesn’t need radio to become a relevant pop star hence why people call her a pop legend and a force in the industry.

Anyways enough with ha, Iggy’s song gets played on every relevant radio station until it gets 150 spins that day for the next update. This is responsible for:

  • High US sales but low WW sales
  • Fancy being her ONLY successful single
  • Problem being ahead of Fancy on iTunes charts and sales wise but not airplay wise so it wasn’t able to go #1 on the BB Hot 100

The GP has turned completely from albums and onto radio. Whatever is played on the radio, they buy. That’s why Fancy is 3x platnium and was #1 for 7 weeks, because of her spins.

Blah blah blah, other than that, Iggy Azalea is trash. Iggy has airplay but yet her album hasn’t even touched 400k dispite it being out for almost 4 months. Airplay can sell singles, but can’t sell albums and the song Happy is a clear sign of that (no shade) (but yeah it kinda was). Anyways, that’s the Iggy tea.
